As a Driver License Examiner Assistant, you will perform a variety of limited technical duties that support the application and knowledge testing processes of the Pennsylvania commercial or non-commercial driver licensing program, including proctoring standardized driver knowledge tests, visual acuity screenings, verifying identity and related documents, and processing applications and test documents.
As a Driver License Examiner, you will evaluate applicants for all classes of driver’s licenses. You will conduct driving performance examinations; administer vision and color perception tests; administer oral, written or computer assisted examinations measuring road sign and signal interpretation, safe driving practices and knowledge of Pennsylvania motor vehicle laws, rules and regulations; check motor vehicles for valid inspection stickers and safe operating condition; examine registrations, permits and other related documents for validity and authenticity; and notify applicants of results and suggest improvements to those who fail. As a Driver License Center Supervisor, you will perform all of the above duties listed as well as oversee the operation of a driver license test site, including scheduling employees and conducting performance evaluations. JOB REQUIREMENTS
You will be tested before your qualifications are reviewed. Your test results will count only if you meet all job requirements. You must be a Pennsylvania resident, of good moral character and able to perform the essential functions of the job. Necessary Special Requirements (71040 and 71041 only) - Possession of a valid Pennsylvania Class C Driver’s License and at least twenty-one years old at the time of application. Condition of Employment: (71040 and 71041 only) - No suspensions or revocations of a driver’s license during the five year period immediately preceding appointment. (71040 only) - Certain positions in this job will require possession of a current Pennsylvania Commercial Driver’s License in classes A and M with the following endorsements: P and N with the L restriction (Air Brakes) lifted. Minimum Requirements 71039 - One year of experience obtaining, evaluating and providing information to the public. 71040 - Two years of experience obtaining, evaluating and providing information to the public. 71041 - One year of experience as a Driver License Examiner OR three years of experience obtaining, evaluating and providing information to the public including one of experience conducting driver tests or driver training.
JOB OPPORTUNITIES EQUAL OPPORTUNITY EMPLOYER There are approximately 150 Driver License Examiner Assistant positions, 165 Driver License Examiner positions and 50 Driver License Center Supervisor positions throughout the Commonwealth of PA. Typically, there are 50 Driver License Examiner Assistant positions, 40 Driver License Examiner positions and 20 Driver License Center Supervisor positions filled annually. Part-time temporary Driver License Examiner Assistant positions are typically filled from March to December to assist with PennDOT’s peak workload season. Additional positions are filled on an as-needed basis. Each temporary position is filled for up to 9 months. Seniority rights are gained for permanent Driver License Examiner Assistant positions. Lists created by this these tests will be used to fill future vacancies as they occur due to retirements, promotions, transfers, resignations and so forth. TESTING The test will be administered on a computer. Information about computerized testing is available online at www.scsc.state.pa.us OR in paper form at any State Civil Service Commission office. You will have a maximum of 2 hours to complete the test. The test will also be held approximately 10 days a month at additional test centers located in Allentown, Erie, Johnstown, Lock Haven, and Scranton. If you take the test and want to take it again, you may be retested after 6 months. You must submit a new application to be retested.
